Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Michelle Gaskin Brown graduated from The Harpeth Hall School and earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science, cum laude, from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, where she was a member of the Honorable Robert H. Staton Moot Court, the co-chair of Indiana University’s Council of Legal Diversity, IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law Pro Bono Award Recipient and a student attorney for the Wrongful Conviction Clinic.

Michelle Gaskin Brown is the Vice President of Policy for the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, focusing primarily on policy issues related to Metro Nashville. Prior to joining the Chamber, Michelle was a legislative attorney with the Office of Legal Services for the Tennessee General Assembly where she served as counsel to all 132 members of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Michelle’s legal career includes clerkships with the Honorable Fern Flanagan Saddler, Superior Court Judge for the District of Columbia and the United States Attorney’s Office in the Middle District of Tennessee.

Outside of her work, Michelle serves as a board member for Nashville CARES, and a past board member of Women in Numbers (WIN) Tennessee and the YMCA Black Achievers Program of Middle Tennessee. She is active with the Hendersonville Area (TN) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and represented her chapter as a 2015 Athena Young Professional Nominee. Michelle is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the Napier-Looby Bar Association. Michelle is most proud of her work as a four-time volunteer to Port Au Prince, Haiti, with CMI Medical Missions, a non-profit, interdenominational organization that provides medical mission worldwide, to help improve the overall physical and spiritual health of local communities. Michelle is the daughter of Drs. Hubert and Angela Gaskin and married to Herbert J. Brown.
