Patrick H. Johnson is a healthcare executive with over 20 years of business development experience. In his current role as Senior Vice President for Institutional Advancement for Meharry Medical College, Patrick is focused on advancing the President’s strategic vision by strengthening transformative relationships with large organizations, major corporation foundations and government entities. In addition to leading his staff of approximately 22 employees, Patrick is also responsible for initiatives supporting clinical programs, training experiences and community engagement opportunities through affiliations with a range of nonprofit, private and government healthcare organizations. Patrick is notably adept at guiding the leadership across the college’s three main schools (medicine, dentistry, and graduate studies and research) along with overseeing new model considerations for Nashville General Hospital. Patrick is most effective at identifying and creating targeted strategies to align support for specific priorities.
Prior to joining Meharry Medical College, Patrick served as Sr. Consultant at Campbell & Company, the nation’s largest and oldest nonprofit management consulting firm. Patrick brought a global perspective to a wide range of clients and was known for his proven ability to meaningfully communicate, quickly grasp even the most complex organizational issues, and facilitate the achievement of goals and objectives. In this consultant role he was able to help a number of healthcare organizations and other entities to seamlessly bridge gaps in management during periods of planned transition, crisis, and organizational change.
Patrick Johnson is formerly the Regional Director of Development for the University of Tennessee system, to include the Knoxville, Martin, Chattanooga, Memphis and Tullahoma campuses. Patrick was brought to UT to establish the southeast region (representing Georgia, Florida and the Carolinas) and was successful at identifying, targeting, cultivating, and soliciting new high net worth donors both corporate and individual.
Patrick received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Fisk University. In 2008 he completed the mini MBA program at Belmont University, with emphasis on organizational development, economics, strategy, finance, negotiation, human resources and management. Mr. Johnson became planned giving certified through the Indiana University School of Philanthropy in 2005 and is a former member of the City of Nashville Planned Giving Council.
Before attending Fisk University, Patrick Johnson served honorably as a member of 4/278th Air Calvary Regiment of the Tennessee National Guard. He completed his Basic Training at Fort Knox, KY and his advanced individual training at Fort Rucker, AL. He was honorably discharged from his service with the Tennessee National Guard in 1996.
Patrick has served on numerous advisory boards for various organizations. He was selected as a member of the transition team for the Lt. Governor of Maryland, Michael Steele in 2002. Mr. Johnson also served on the special Task Force on Minority Business Reform for the State of Maryland, and subsequently served as an advisor to the Maryland Governor’s Commission on Minority Business Reform.
